The 1983 Movie “The Day After” was one piece of cold war fiction that really influenced my writing along with the British movie “Threads.”
Yes my novel includes Russian nukes, but not in the typical way you’d expect. It’s more that those nukes are still out there and if they aren't to be used eventually then what exactly are they there for? What if someone found a way to get those idiots to push those buttons.
So the news lately has got me thinking about the Cold War. Now we have the Mafioso Vladimir Putin sending troops into Crimea. The Western world is up in arms and relations between the US and Russia have -- cooled.
I don’t necessarily think that we are going to war or that the Cold War style us vs. them is coming back again, but those stockpiles of nuclear weapons are still out there. How bad would it have to get before we’re thinking about it again? It’s so crazy that thousand of these deadly weapons exist and that possibly our children might have to grow up thinking about fallout shelters and duck and cover drills.
So does anyone have any thoughts about this? If you do please comment below.
