A teenager reported seeing the object crash and he told his mother. She saw tendrils of blue smoke coming from the trees. Soon the military showed up and cordoned off the area with the help of State Police. The press reported a massive US Army presence and that eyewitnesses saw a large acorn shaped dome partly embedded in the ground. The orangish capsule was said to have writing along the base that resembled Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
Of course the military’s comment was that they had found nothing, but more witnesses said that they saw a flatbed Army truck leave the scene with a large object on the back. The truck was heavily guarded as it left the woods.
At first speculation was that the object could have been a Russian satellite that crashed after re-entry. It left a small trail of metallic debris that left grass fires along its path, but NASA says that it absolutely could not have been a satellite because they monitor all orbits very closely.
If you look at the time frame that this occurred you can see that it was right at the height of the Cold War. Everything was secret. Whether it was a part of an American missile test or a Russian satellite you would never get a straight answer at that time in history.
Here’s what the Greensburg Tribune-Review had to say:
“The Tribune-Review from nearby Greensburg had a reporter at the scene; the headline in the newspaper the next morning was "Unidentified Flying Object Falls near Kecksburg — Army Ropes off Area". The article continued with, "The area where the object landed was immediately sealed off on the order of U.S. Army and State Police officials, reportedly in anticipation of a 'close inspection' of whatever may have fallen... State Police officials there ordered the area roped off to await the expected arrival of both U.S. Army engineers and possibly, civilian scientists." However, a later edition of the newspaper stated that nothing reportedly had been found after authorities searched the area.”
The Sci-Fi channel investigated this incident in 2003 and found that the tops of the trees in the area of the crash had been severed. They took wood samples from the damage and dated it to 1965. When they pushed for release of the reports, the files on the case reiterated that nothing had been found.
However in 2005 NASA changed the story saying it was indeed a Russian satellite that crashed. Which contradicted their earlier stance that there was no possible way that a satellite could have entered the Earth’s atmosphere. A lawsuit was filed pressing NASA to release all of the information, but apparently the files were “lost” or “destroyed.” This is very convenient.
In 2007 the court pressured NASA to find the files on the incident and pressed for all of the files and the “blue book” on the case to be released. NASA reported that two boxes worth of files were “missing.” NASA blamed a poor filing system among other excuses for the mysterious missing files.
So if this was just a satellite why is there still a cover-up? Why would NASA go through such great lengths to protect their information. Why did the ARMY say that nothing was found? I declare shenanigans on this entire story from NASA and the Army. What do you think?
