For the A to Z challenge today’s letter is ‘F’ so I’m going to write a blog post on Flesh Eating Bacteria and the super Flu.
One of my favorite post-apocalyptic scenarios is the dreaded virus that wipes out 99% of the human population. So today I’m going to tell you a little story about my experiences with the super flu.
When I was going to school for Radiology we would do our clinical rotations at the hospital. When I first started I was as green as you could get and gullible too. I would follow around a couple of experienced techs who were supposed to be my mentors.
So one of the first days I’m there we go up to intensive care to do an X-ray. We get to this enclosed room that has warning stickers all over it. The veteran techs tell me that the X-ray is up to me because the patient has MRSA. If you don’t know what MRSA is, it’s a strain of staph infection that is resistant to antibiotics. It's been touted as the "Super Flu"
I didn’t know anything about MRSA at the time. They said “Be careful when you go in there because the MRSA is eating away her face, it’s all over her eyes and remember it’s highly contagious.” So now I’m freaking out thinking I could catch this horrific disease.
I gown up and go into the room and the patient looks fine, but I’m still keeping my distance. The lady is sweet, but she starts asking for crazy things like; if I can wipe the snot off her nose or if I could get her bed pan. So I don’t know what to do, I finish up with the X-ray and as I’m pulling the hard plastic tray out from under the woman to be developed she starts coughing all over me.
So I run out of the room practically screaming for the hand sanitizer. When I get out there the two veteran techs are laughing their heads off. Turned out the lady was in there for a hip replacement. They had set the whole thing up as a prank. I was pissed, but I got over it pretty quick.
